How do I play?

Each word shows up with one letter missing. Pick the missing letter from the tiles, drag the tile to load the sling and let go to fire it into the portal. The first player to land the right letter wins the word. Three wrong letters and you are locked out of that word.

What is the green band on the power bar?

It is the sweet band, and it moves to a new random place on every word. As you drag the tile, move it until the needle sits in the green, then let go. Outside the green, the shot falls short or flies long and misses, even with the right letter.

How does a duel work?

A duel is the best of three rounds of 45 seconds. Whoever claims more words takes the round, and if a round ends level, the next word decides it. Win two rounds to win the match.

What do the powers do?

You buy power charges with coins you earn by playing and put up to four powers in your loadout. In a duel you can use two per match, and each use spends one charge. Reveal cuts one wrong letter. Frost freezes your rival for a moment. Sweet+ widens your green band for your next three shots. Shrink narrows your rival’s green band for their next three shots. Shield blocks the next power your rival uses on you. Bomb leaves only the right letter. Powers are off in the Daily Gauntlet and in Challenges.

Which modes can I play?

• Online Duel: Game Center finds you a rival at your level, or you invite a friend.
• Nearby Duel: two iPhones close together, on the same Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth on.
• Bot Duel: a rival that adapts to your pace.
• Practice: no pressure, just you and the sling.
• Daily Gauntlet: 90 seconds to claim as many words as you can from a deck that is the same for every player each day, in their own language, with powers off. A new deck starts at midnight UTC.
• Challenge Links: after a Gauntlet or a Challenge, send a friend a link. They get the same deck and try to beat your score.

What happens if nobody is online?

Online Duel looks for a player near your rating first, then for anyone. If nobody is found within 15 seconds, or Game Center is not available, you play our adaptive bot instead, so you never wait long. The bot plays on your iPhone and matches your pace.

Which languages are the words in?

English and Turkish. The game uses Turkish if your iPhone is set to Turkish, and English otherwise. To change it, pick English or Türkçe under Language in the game’s Settings, then restart the app. You can even duel a friend who plays in the other language: each of you gets words in your own language, matched by category and difficulty.

Do new words need an app update?

No. When you open SpellShot, it downloads the latest new words and uses them from the next time you open it. The Daily Gauntlet and Challenge Links use only the words built into the app, so everyone gets the same deck.

Do I need an account or Game Center?

There is no account and nothing to sign up for. Your progress is saved on your iPhone. Game Center, Apple’s sign-in for games, is used only for Online Duel, friend invites and the leaderboards, so SpellShot asks Game Center to sign you in when it opens. You can skip it: every other mode works without Game Center. To sign in later, go to Settings › Game Center on your iPhone.

Why does SpellShot want to find devices on my local network?

That is Apple’s permission for Nearby Duel, which connects two iPhones directly over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. iOS asks the first time you look for a nearby player. If you said no and want to play Nearby Duel, turn it on in Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network. No other mode needs it.

What do other players see?

In a duel, your rival sees your in-game name, avatar and rating, and your moves. If you never chose a name, rivals see “Rival” and nearby players see “iPhone” in their list. You can set your name in your Profile. On the Game Center leaderboards, your scores appear with your Game Center nickname.

Does SpellShot work offline?

Bot Duel, Practice, the Daily Gauntlet and Challenge Links play without a connection. Nearby Duel needs Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on, but no internet. Online Duel and the leaderboards need the internet, and new words download only when you are online.

Is SpellShot on Android or iPad?

SpellShot is made for iPhone, needs iOS 17 or later and plays in portrait. There is no Android or iPad version.

How do I reset my progress?

There is no reset button. To start over, delete SpellShot from your iPhone and install it again. This deletes your progress for good: we have no copy of it, so it only comes back if you restore your iPhone from a backup that still contains it.

We have no copy of your progress, so we cannot restore it. It only comes back if you restore your iPhone from a backup that still contains it. To free up space without losing your progress, offload the game instead of deleting it: Settings › General › iPhone Storage › SpellShot › Offload App.

Will my progress move to a new iPhone?

Yes, if you move your data with an iCloud or computer backup, or with Apple’s iPhone-to-iPhone transfer. There is no other way to move it, because your progress exists only on your iPhone.

Does SpellShot cost anything?

No. SpellShot is free, has no ads, and there is nothing to buy. You earn coins by playing and spend them on powers, avatars and portal skins.

How do I report a bug?

Email us with your iPhone model, your iOS version and what happened, and add a screenshot if you can. If you are testing the game through TestFlight, you can also send feedback from the TestFlight app.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the game to delete your progress from your iPhone. To have the emails you sent us deleted, ask us. Scores on Game Center are held by Apple; the privacy policy explains how to reach Apple about them.
